Take Flight
Since 2021, uncle mo has curated all-vinyl afro disco event Take Flight at Love Shack in Bethnal Green, the heart of London's East End.
Take Flight aims to showcase the rich and vibrant diversity of music from across sub-Saharan Africa, and to provide people with a space to escape for a few hours and feel warm.
The name is inspired not just by the concept, but also a near-death incident on an aircraft over Africa which uncle mo survived at the age of 11.
Previous guests include seasoned selectors and collectors of African music SNO (South Africa), Mamoussa (Ivory Coast / France) and Volta 45 (Ghana) – as well as an exclusive London gig from Malawi's Madalitso Band.
